The traditional separation between strategy, identity and implementation is becoming harder to sustain. Brand leaders want smaller gaps between the decision, the design and the point where the work becomes real.
That creates room for specialist studios with a narrow point of view, but it also rewards larger partners that can connect research, identity, product and rollout without losing the core idea.
The handoff is the problem
Much of the value in a brand programme disappears during translation: from strategy to design, from design to digital, or from central teams to markets. Agencies that can reduce those handoffs can often create more practical value than teams that simply produce more presentation material.
The emerging differentiator is not scale alone. It is the ability to make a distinctive idea survive contact with a complex organisation.
